AROUND 40 people representing 20 organisations attended a meeting on Monday at Saltash Guildhall to find out about the cash being given away by the town council, which has pledged to support local projects by offering grants of up to £1,000. Mayor David Carter explained that the £50,000 being given away by the council would be a project stretching over the next three years. Councillor Pip Miller explained how the Community Chest would work and how each application would be judged on how the particular organisation would use the money. The organisations applying for money would also have to present their accounts when applying for the grant, it was said. Councillor Sue Hooper gave a presentation on how the fund would work. She said that three councillors would be on the judging committee when dealing with the applications and councillors would not be on that committee if they were in any way involved with a particular organisation or festival. After the presentations, representatives were able to discuss their applications with councillors. Application forms are available at the town clerk's office at Saltash Guildhall.
