A Young Farmer from Cornwall has teamed up with the ‘Yellow Wellies’ organisation to produce a special Christmas message.

Leading farm safety charity, the Farm Safety Foundation - or Yellow Wellies as it is known to many - is celebrating a busy year of award-winning campaigns, and a brand new Mental Health in Farming session.

The charity was set up by rural insurer NFU Mutual to raise awareness of farm safety among the next generation of farmers, and to reduce the number of life changing and life ending incidents that continue to give farming the poorest safety record of any occupation in the UK.

To finish the year, the Foundation have been working with a young farmer and filmmaker from Cornwall, Sam Oatey, to direct and produce a special message to share on social media channels. The short video clip features Stephanie, Olivia and Sophie from the Farm Safety Foundation and another young farmer from Cornwall, Matt Rawlinson as well as two social media influencers Hannah Jackson (Red Shepherdess) and Tom Pemberton.

The film reminds the farming community just how important they are - and wishes everyone a very Happy and safe Christmas.

The Foundation decided to approach Sam as he, and two friends Dan and Josh, had raised funds for Yellow Wellies during the summer driving from Cornwall to Pompeii dressed as the Scooby Doo’s Mystery Machine characters.

Sam’s company, Oatey Media is a film production company producing branded content for businesses and brands across the UK and beyond. Having already created films for some major players within the agricultural sector, including Kuhn UK, Cornwall YFC’s My Mind Matters campaign, and the Royal Cornwall Show, they were the perfect team to work with, said manager of the Farm Safety Foundation Stephanie Berkeley.

‘At this time of year, any loss feels more pronounced,’ said Stephanie.

‘I decided to write a poem as a reminder of why you should work safely on farms all year round. Bringing Oatey Media on board to make our vision come to life seemed like a great fit and we are delighted with the results.’

Sam said that being asked to make the Yellow Wellies film was an ‘absolute pleasure’.

‘My family are all farmers, so I know how important the Yellow Wellies message is to the agricultural industry.

‘As a film production company that works closely with the farming sector, we wanted to get on board and help produce a film that would carry the Farm Safety Foundation’s underlying message.’
