A CHAPEL is helping its community come together to help provide a new air ambulance for Cornwall.
In Polperro, the Methodist Chapel has been a hub for village events for many decades.
It holds rehearsals of the Fishermen’s Choir, surgeries for the local Cornwall Councillor, and is the regular meeting place for many organisations including the Memory Cafe.
Its bright community room overlooking the Big Green and recently updated kitchen and toilets are a draw for groups who look to hold their events in the Chapel.
As well as fundraising throughout the summer for the chapel’s own upkeep, members like to support other causes.
This year, the Cornwall Air Ambulance has launched an appeal to purchase a new helicopter, and Polperro Methodist Chapel will be doing its part to help out.
The Chapel will be hosting a fundraising event on Wednesday May 30 and anyone interested in booking a free table should get in touch with member Janet Bryant on 01503 272613.
‘Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan, who live locally, launched the appeal to raise the two million pounds needed to go towards a new helicopter,’ said Janet.
‘We are hoping to raise £1000 through the summer months for this much needed commodity in a rural area. Let’s all make a big effort.’
The event in Polperro will be held in the main chapel, so will not be weather reliant, Janet adds.
Light lunches and desserts as well as cakes will be available in the community room.
