CHRISTMAS trees can be collected and composted for free.

Cornwall Council’s teams will collect non artificial real Christmas trees in the weeks starting January 8 and January 15 - but only in those weeks.

Put your tree out on your normal rubbish collection day on the alternate week to your recycling collection.

The trees will be shredded and composted.

You can also take your tree to the recycling centres at Connon Bridge and Launceston.

There are various charity collections for Christmas cards, or you can put them in your cardboard sack as part of your household cardboard recycling collection.

Envelopes can go in your household recycling collection.  White envelopes should go into the paper sack, coloured or brown envelopes should go with the cardboard.

Wrapping paper that is not coated with foil or plastic can go in your household recycling collection (remove any sticky tape, string or ribbons).

If you have lots of big cardboard boxes, flat pack them, tie them in a bundle and put them out next to your recycling.

If you have very large amounts of cardboard, you can either take it to your recycling centre or put it out for the kerbside collection over a couple of weeks.

The council has recently added plastic pots, tubs and trays to kerbside recycling collections so this year you an recycle:

Sweet and biscuit tins

Mince pie trays (Not black)

Clotted cream pots

Brandy sauce pots

Christmas pudding tubs

Scrunched up tin foil should go into the sack for plastic bottles and cans.
