THE Queen's Guide award, the top award in Guiding, was presented at a special evening at St Mellion Golf Club on Saturday to Cheryl Smith by County Guide Commissioner Chris Grint. The Queen's Guide award involves many years of work on a variety of subjects. Cheryl was also presented with her five year service award. She took two and a half years to complete the tests for the award which included canoeing, exploration of a river near Bristol and camping. She is now a Rainbow and Brownie Guide leader as well as a County advisor for the Queen's Guide award scheme. Alison Butler, Division Commissioner, welcomed about 80 guests including the mayor of Saltash, Sue Hooper who congratulated the award winners. Five years service awards were presented by Pam Potterton, Assistant Division Commissioner to: C Barwell (Saltash), K Brewer (St Germans), N Cardew (Torpoint), L Clarke (Torpoint), C Clement (Saltash), A Elliott (St Germans), J Moreton (Saltash), S Roper (Torpoint), C Smith (Saltash). Mrs Butler presented ten years service awards to J Best (Saltash) W Child, (Saltash). A camp licence was presented by Mrs Eddy, County Outdoor Activities Adviser, to Frances Wells. Helen Clement received a Guides Good service certificate. Thanks badges for service to the movement were presented to D Couling (Treasurer, St Germans District), B Hosking, (ex-District Commissioner and Depot organisor) A Miller, (Chairman Trefoil Guild, & reporter), A Owen, (ex Brownie Guider, Saltash and lettings officer HQ), Y Harrison, (Brownie and Guide Guider), C Swain (Ex DC Torpoint, and Admin Officer), G Sollick, (Secretary, Saltash Guides), P Potterton (assistant Div Commissioner).
