One of the founders of local charity Ellie’s Haven, Nigel Libby, has been shortlisted in the South West regional stage of the ITV Fundraiser of the Year Award.
A film of Nigel and Ellie’s Haven, which provides holidays for families with disabled children in a specially adapted property in Duloe, will be shown on ITV regional news this week.
‘I felt honoured to be nominated,’ said Nigel. ‘To be shortlisted is amazing.’
If Nigel wins the regional stage, he will take part in the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards event to be held in London next month.
Nigel and his wife, Julie, founded Ellie’s Haven in November 2007.
Since then they’ve raised more £800,000 with the help of supporters – individuals, community groups and local businesses – and that’s been sufficient for the charity to provide a haven.
Nigel and Julie had two children who passed away at an early age, Thomas and Ellie.
