Caradon Hockey Club hosted the first of four county under-14 boys' and under-12 girls' seven-a-side tournaments on Sunday when they welcomed teams from Launceston, Penzance, St Austell and Truro.

The hosts' under-14 squad played some great hockey and finished second on the day.

Good passing play from Mark Arnold, Finnan Andrews, Reece Hodge and Elliot Grange gave the forwards lots of chances on goal, while Tyler Walsh, Liam Hunn and Callum Hodge were among those who got their names on the scoresheet.

Jordan Johns pulled off some excellent saves in goal and was supported by well-timed tackles from Ross Bellringer and Jacob Hennings.

Meanwhile, the Caradon girls' under-12 team produced superb performances and were rewarded with two draws.

With Lauren Bowlder and Daisy Hunn defending and releasing the ball to midfielders Lowenna Arnold, Jade Bently and Georgia Davies, it was down to Lucy Clarridge and Kerryn Walsh to attack – and the pair were unlucky not to score more goals than they did.

The next round is due to be held at Lux Park on Sunday, January 23.

Caradon Hockey Club now enter the Christmas break excited at the prospects for 2011.
