VILLAGERS are coming together to tidy up and bring a little spring colour to their community spaces.

Polperro Community Council’s environmental officer Michael Thurlow and Cornwall Councillor Edwina Hannaford have joined forces to arrange a litter pick around Polperro and a clean up and bulb planting in Carey Park.

While the village litter pick is this Sunday (October 11) from 11am – 1pm the Carey Park event will be the following Sunday at the same time.

People are being urged to sign up for either or both of the activities, and there will be groups of no more than six to abide by social distancing laws.

Areas being targeted include Kiligarth and  down Talland Hill, Raphael down Landaviddy Lane, Crumplehorn to Langreek and Hillsview and The Warren along the SW Coast Path.

The working bee at Carey Park will build on a similar clean-up 12 months ago, when residents cleared weeds from the kerbside and children planted daffodils at the entrance to the estate.

Cllr Edwina Hannaford said: “I have a large sack of bulbs and also had some donated by a resident that we can plant. The few bulbs the children planted last year looked beautiful when they bloomed at the end of February this year and it would be a wonderful welcome to the estate to see the whole verge covered.”

Some tools will be provided for the planting but participants should bring face coverings and gloves.  Bin bags and litter pickers can be provided for the tidy ups: Biffa will collect waste collected if left at the Biffa depot by the Fishnabridge toilets by the surgery, and at the entrance to Carey Park.

Anyone who’d like to take part in either session should call Edwina Hannaford on 07717203725 or email [email protected]
