A CALL has been made for safety checks to be carried out after a tree blocked a busy road on New Year’s Day.
The tree crashed onto the road at the junction between St Martin’s Road and Sandplace Road in Looe.
Traffic was diverted via Morval for around an hour.
Looe mayor and Cornwall Councillor Armand Toms said he had emailed Cornwall Council asking for checks to be carried out on the hillside above the road.
He said: ‘The difficulty is that the council doesn’t own all the land and I understand private landowners have been contacted about trees. Every time I see anything amiss on that stretch of road I report it as a matter of course.’
