Councillors have put forward plans to scrap the planning committee at Cornwall Council which deals with large developments, writes Richard Whitehouse, local democracy reporter.

A motion is set to go before Cornwall Council next week calling for the strategic planning committee to be shut down as there has been a lack of applications for it to consider.

Cornwall Council has three area planning committees – central, east and west – which decide most applications, while the strategic planning committee considers applications which are larger and usually have a countywide implication.

Since November 2017 the committee has only met on four occasions while another nine scheduled meetings have been cancelled.
