Firefighters who dealt with yesterday’s tumble dryer fire at Nomansland reminded people that Cornwall Trading Standards officers issued advice in March, highlighting further recall information following warnings that some brands of tumble dryer may pose a fire hazard.

The recalls come after a series of household blazes involving certain brands of tumble dryer which have been linked to a potential fire risk caused by fluff accumulating in the filter close to the heating element.

Whirlpool, which now owns some of the brands that are potentially affected, advise that the tumble dryers may be used but should not be left unattended until a modification has been carried out by an operative trained solely on how to carry out this work. The condenser and vented tumble dryer recalls are for certain Hotpoint, Indesit, Creda, Swan and Proline models produced between April 2004 and October 2015.  Customers are advised to contact Hotpoint (safety.hotpoint.eu) to arrange a free one hour visit from an engineer, free of charge, to make necessary improvements to the safety and quality of their dryer.

In October 2013 Beko also reported a small number of incidents involving their 6kg and 7kg Condenser Tumble Dryers manufactured between May 2012 and October 2012, where an electrical component failed and overheated, leading to a potential risk of fire. They also carried out a voluntary modification program. Beko can be contacted on 0800 917 2018 between 8.00am to 8.00pm Monday to Friday and 10.00am to 4.00pm Saturday and Sunday.

1800 selected White Knight condenser dryer models made in 2010 were recalled due to a sub-standard connector component that can potentially lead to overheating and if left unresolved could create a potential fire hazard over time. For advice contact 01422 524118

Siemens branded tumble driers made in 2002 were recalled in 2014 also due to components overheating and presenting a risk of fire. For more information, contact customer service on 0344 892 8999
