LISKEARD’S Co-op store is set to reopen fully on Friday (July 9) following a £1m, five-week programme of works to transform the town centre supermarket.

During the refurbishment works the store’s downstairs kiosk area has operated as a pop-up shop, but the fully refitted main store is due to have its official opening ceremony, with Liskeard Mayor Councillor Simon Cassidy performing the honours, at 10am on Friday.

The new-look Liskeard store – with its lower kiosk entrance on Barras Street and main entrance from Westbourne Car Park – is almost 7,200 sq ft in area and supports 25 local jobs.

Barry Hill, Liskeard Co-op Store Manager, said: “We are delighted to have had an opportunity to carry out such a significant investment in Liskeard – the store will have a fantastic new look and we have worked to develop the range, choice, products and added services locally to create a really compelling offer to serve our community.

“Co-op is committed to connecting communities and making a difference locally, and our aim is to operate at the heart of local life. We also want customers to know that they can become a member of the Co-op. In addition to unlocking additional value and personalised offers for themselves, our members help to make a difference to local causes – Co-op donates 2p in every pound to community causes when members swipe their membership card when buying own-branded products. So by shopping at the Co-op our members are also helping to make good things happen in the community.”

Branded

The members scheme see shoppers being rewarded with 2p in every pound that they spend on Co-op branded products, which is added to their own personal Membership account balance. The Co-op then also donates the same amount to local causes.

Students who are TOTUM cardholders – the new name for NUS extra – also receive a 10% discount at the Co-op.

Store manager Barry Hill added that while running on 100% renewable electricity, the Liskeard store includes such facilities as a Costa coffee dispenser, a free to use ATM cashpoint, and hot food and bakery alongside an enhanced range of fresh, healthy products, meal ideas, award-winning wines, ready meals and pizzas, vegan and plant-based products, Fairtrade items, and everyday essentials.

John Lewis click and collect and Amazon Lockers are also available at the store.

In addition, same-day online home delivery, and click and collect of groceries is available through Co-op’s own online shop – see coop.co.uk/shop - for added ease and convenience. The store will be open between 7am and 10pm Monday to Saturday, and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

Mr Hill said that Co-op has around 4.6 million active members and, alongside its food business, it operates Co-op Funeralcare, Insurance and Legal Services.
