Unsightly buildings adjacent to historic Carlyon House, St Neot are to be demolished and replaced by two dwellings and three garages.

The scheme is aimed at a general environmental improvement of the focal village site. Carlyon House is a listed grade two property and in the past had been a pub and, latterly, a garage with workshops behind. The new semi-detached homes will infill the vacated space and provide accommodation which accords with policies on housing in village centre sites.

Removed will be a two storey barn, a single storey stone outbuilding and a large concrete built garage.

Concerns over the development were voiced to Caradon councillors by neighbours to the property, where party walls will be affected.

The application, from Mr and Mrs D Watts, was debated by Caradon's planning sub committee (west). Area planner, Marshall Plummer, said acceptable revised plans had been received, and ward member Bevil Bunt confirmed he had seen these and felt a good scheme was being prepared.

The meeting unanimously voted for approval subject to listed building status being protected.
