A goal in the 95th minute from a disputed free-kick, excellently dispatched into the top left hand corner, saw honours even in this local derby at the top of Division Three.
Saints started well and their movement and passing and overall commitment pushed Lanreath back, and took the lead after 25 minutes through Harvey connecting with a shot-cum-pass from Collins to beat the home goalkeeper from close range. End to end football ensued before further pressure from the visitors, originally from a corner, saw Perrett scramble the ball home to give them a two-goal cushion at the interval, although Lou Lewis was unlucky not to halve the score when a late chance rebounded off the foot of a post.
With changes at half-time Lanreath came out determined to cut the deficit. Continued pressure brought the desired result from the home team although not in the way they envisaged half way through the half when a long cross into the area which should have resulted in a regulation catch was dropped at the feet of an on-coming forward who gratefully accepted the surprise chance. To their credit Saints did not weaken in resolve and checked the home team at every opportunity as they pressed for the equaliser. Saints were reduced to breakaways, two of which resulted in decent chances that were not converted.
With the stop-go game well into 'time added on', Lanreath were awarded a disputed free-kick from what was scored easily the best goal of the afternoon and Saints were left ruefully reflecting on the score line which is essence was a fair result on the balance of play, in a local derby played in good spirit by the players on the pitch, without a bad tackle all afternoon as the referee did his best to turn this football match into an example of a non-contact sport.
