CALLINGTON Town Band is to release a CD to celebrate its tenth anniversary. A varied selection of music has been chosen by the musicians, ranging from The Dambuster's march to a piece called 'The Callington Town Band March', which was specially written for the band by Jennifer Murray and arranged by Ian Marshall. Under its musical director, Paul Boase, the band is busily rehearsing for the recording on July 23. This is taking place amid a busy schedule of summer events, the first of which was the Lion's Summer Fete on July 9. At its recent annual meeting, the band lost the services of its chairman, Roger Ellard, and secretary, Ann Ellard who both resigned due to work commitments. They had both served the band loyally for a number of years and the members expressed their appreciation to them. As a result of the resignations, several new appointments were made to the committee which now consists of vice chairman Tony Baughan, secretary Mrs Dee Baker – (01579) 384092 – treasurer Kevin McKane, musical director Paul Boase, bandmaster Ian Marshall, librarian Jane McKane and training band conductor Bill Leith. Committee members are Bobby Reeve, Dawn Kinsman and Marion Veal. Publicity is dealt with by Shirley Morse, non-committee. The post of chairman is still vacant and the band would welcome anyone with the love of, and enthusiasm for, brass band music who feels that they could fill this post. The band has two dozen permanent members but would welcome any experienced musician who would like to join them. Less experienced musicians, of any age, would also be welcomed into the training band, where musical instruments could be loaned to them if needed. Both bands meet in the Band Room at Callington Museum, Liskeard Road, on a Thursday evening, 6.30-7.15pm for the training band, 7.30pm onwards for the main band.
