A development company has lodged an appeal to the Department of the Environment over its plans to erect apartments on an East Looe car park. Rowan Homes (SW) Ltd was refused permission by Caradon District Council for the erection of five self-contained apartments, to include three parking spaces, and alterations to the access arrangements at the former car park in Shutta Lane. The council rejected the scheme on the grounds that they would result in a visually dominant building, out of sympathy with the character of the surrounding Conservation Area and the setting of Cobwalls Cottage, a nearby Listed Building. Concern was also raised at the extent of overlooking of neighbouring properties and the planned removal of a stone wall forming part of the character of the Conservation Area. The appeal is to be dealt with by way of written representations. Plans, documents and copies of the appellant's grounds of appeal can be viewed at Caradon's Planning Department, Luxstowe House, Liskeard between 8.30am-5pm Monday to Friday.
