Polperro is getting ready to roll out the barrels and bunting as the village hosts nine days of music, arts, comedy, food and more.

The Polperro festival (June 16 to 24) draws local people and visitors alike for its colourful party atmosphere.

The festival traditionally starts and ends with a parade through the village. The first day also sees the crowning of the new ‘Lord Mayor’, who may even be dunked in the harbour as he or she takes on the role!

The final Saturday of the festival will be a pirate day, and organisers are encouraging everyone to come in costume to add to the fun.

In between, each day of the festival has its own theme, with a family dog show on the Sunday, arts and crafts days on the Tuesday and Thursday, and Foodie Friday among the highlights.

Comedian Justin Moorhouse will be appearing on the Wednesday night and bands performing during the week include Tom O’Reily and the Swaggers (pictured), Echo Town, Mr T and the Minions, and The Andy Quick Band.

Almost all of the events at the festival are free to attend, and take place at locations all around the village including Big Green, the Village Hall, the Royal British Legion, various pubs and the beach.

New for this year’s festival will be a summer solstice bonfire on the beach on Thursday June 21.

‘A parade will start at 8.30pm from the Legion,’ said organiser Kelly Gilbert.

‘Anyone who wants to help build the Wiccan man should come to the workshop during the day between 12noon - 5pm.’
