A town's mayor is calling for the leader of Cornwall County Council and the councillor in charge of Newquay Airport to resign.
The airport has been closed temporarily because the county council failed to get a licence in time to keep it open when the RAF moved out.
Speaking at a Looe Town Council meeting, mayor Ron Overd said: 'The airport business is appalling and I think the leader of Cornwall County Council and cllr Andrew Mitchell should resign.'
Fellow councillor Armand Toms said: 'It has put egg on our faces and they need to stand up and take the punishment.'
Meanwhile, Caradon District Council chairman Paul Adams denied the district council permission to discuss the forced closure of the airport as 'urgent business' at a meeting in Liskeard.
Cllr Brian Galipeau said: 'The chairman told me he would not allow me to raise the issue because it was nothing to do with Caradon. This is clearly nonsense since building our local economy is our top priority.'
