Following the Cornish Times lead article headlined Plan to raise bridge tolls (04.07.08), I was expecting to see the letters page inundated with complaints by the residents of South East Cornwall, particularly those who commute across the Tamar each day. Did anyone read the article? A 40 per cent increase for TamarTag holders. Not only should readers be making their views known through the Cornish Times but they should also bombard Mr David List, the general manager of the Tamar Bridge & Torpoint Ferry Committee, with letters of disgust. Why is such a large increase needed? Mr List is reported as saying that there would be a public consultation but with whom and why? From my experience when there is such an announcement, the decision has already been made. I would be interested to hear other views.
