Animals are suffering at Gables Dogs and Cats Home as it is left without heating and hot water due to its boiler breaking down beyond repair.

The Plymouth-based charity has more than 150 unwanted and abandoned dogs and cats in their care, including some very young and very old. They are having to use heat pads and plug in radiators where they can as a short term solution.

The cost of replacing the commercial boiler is £4,700 and the charity is already starting to suffer financially as they have had to cancel essential fundraising events and now their customers have been forced to cancel their dog and cat boarding bookings. They are now looking to their supporters for any financial help they might be able to give.

Ruth Rickard, Deputy Manager, said: ’We know times are hard for everyone at the moment and this breakdown couldn’t have come at a worse time. It is such a large amount of money to have to find so we are asking our wonderful supporters to donate just a pound or two so we can reach our goal. It doesn’t have to be a huge donation to make a huge difference.’

Gables is a non-euthanasia charity. If you can make a contribution to ‘Boiler Bummer’ campaign please call 01752 331602 or visit www.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/boilerbummer.com to donate.
