Looe’s lifeboat volunteers were called to two shouts in quick succession on Saturday as people found themselves in trouble in the water.

The first call to kayakers off Looe Island came at around 4.45pm. On their arrival, lifeboat men found two kayakers towing a third person, whose sit-in kayak had been swamped by water. Strong winds were hampering their progress, said an RNLI spokesperson.

After crew had taken the cold and wet kayaker back to Looe to be checked over, the Atlantic 85 returned to Hannafore to make sure the other two people in the group had made it safely back to the shore - and to recover the third kayak.

Later in the evening, pagers sounded again for reports of a small boat drifting off Millendreath.

Crew went to the aid of three people whose dinghy had suffered engine failure. The group was attempting to row back to the beach but was being blown offshore by the strong wind. Looe’s lifeboat towed the tender back to Millendreath.
