Looe coastguard rescuers and the port’s RNLI joined in a search sparked by the discovery of a liferaft in Whitsand Bay yesterday.

HM Coastguard organised the search after being alerted to debris including the liferaft, a lifejacket and a spinnaker pole.

Coastguard rescue teams from Tamar and Looe and four RNLI lifeboats from Plymouth and Looe looked in an area between Rame Head and Seaton.

No vessel had been reported missing or in trouble and the coastguard said the search was simply for ’anything untoward’.

The operation continued through Sunday afternoon and into the early evening but nothing was reported to have been found.

The liferaft was of six-person size but was not inflated.
