‘Extremely dangerous and completely unacceptable’ is what police are calling the actions of two teenagers setting off live fireworks in Callington.

Devon and Cornwall Police have launched an appeal after two teenagers were reported to have set off fireworks along Launceston Road in Callington on Friday, October 30.

In the appeal, PCSO Jo Addems has described the behaviour as ‘completely unacceptable’ detailing the potential risk of these actions.

She said: “Let’s be absolutely clear: this behaviour is extremely dangerous and completely unacceptable.

“Fireworks are explosives and, when used irresponsibly, can cause serious and life-changing injuries. Throwing lit fireworks creates a significant risk to pedestrians, motorists, nearby residents and anyone unfortunate enough to be in the vicinity.

“Fireworks can cause severe burns, permanent eye injuries, hearing damage and fires. They can also startle drivers, potentially leading to serious road traffic collisions. Once a firework has been lit and thrown, there is no control over where it lands or who it might injure.”

Following the incident, police have appealed for anyone who might have information to come forward. As well as this, the force has reminded parents and guardians to remind young people of the dangers these sorts of actions can create.

PCSE Addems continued: “We would like to remind everyone, particularly parents and guardians, to speak to young people about the serious consequences of this behaviour.

“If you witnessed this incident or have any information that could help us identify those involved, please contact us on 101 quoting reference number 50260293051

“Even seemingly small details could be helpful.”
