A new police commander has been appointed to lead policing in Cornwall.

Chief Superintendent Jim Pearce has taken over the responsibility for crime and community policing across the county.

He will be supported by a strong team of Superintendents and Chief Inspectors positioned across the geographic area.

Chief Superintendent Jim Pearce has been with Devon and Cornwall Police for 15 years and has held many roles in this time.  Most recently he was LPA Commander for West Cornwall and previously he has been Chief Inspector for Operations, Partnership Inspector and a Cornish Sector Inspector.

His appointment began at the end of January and since taking up the role he has met many officers, staff and specials as well as representatives from partner agencies.

Chief Superintendent Jim Pearce said: ’I’m really looking forward to this exciting new challenge and I intend to build on the existing good work and practice already taking place around the county to ensure Cornwall remains one of the safety places to live and visit.

’Having been the LPA Commander for West Cornwall, I am already very familiar with the area and understand the challenges facing us.  I want to deliver the best quality policing and ensure victims are central to everything we do.  We have excellent police officers, staff and volunteers in Cornwall who are dedicated and committed and I know share this vision.

’I also plan to build relations further with partner agencies and voluntary organisations, so we can combine our resources to provide the best service to the communities of Cornwall.’
