High-profile vehicle patrols
Police have been carrying out high-profile patrols throughout Caradon during the late evenings and overnight to deter thefts from vehicles and fuel thefts.
Vehicles have been stopped and searched and checks carried out. Community Sergeant Steve Torr said that Operation Buccaneer led to the arrest of two males on suspicion of theft from motor vehicles and they are currently on police bail.
Operation Buccaneer involved dog handlers, special constables, community liaison officers, the CID and the Caradon action team.
The police are appealing to the public to be vigilant with regard to anything suspicious they see happening in car parks, especially lorry and long waiting parks.
Lorries are checked over
Police have given preliminary figures following Operation Mermaid in which they stopped and checked lorries throughout Cornwall and Devon, including foreign vehicles.
In Cornwall 42 vehicles were stopped, and 15 offences of driving over hours were found, along with 16 vehicle examiner offences. Two immediate prohibitions, because of defective brakes, were served.
