Lifeboat called to a Cornish Lass
Fowey lifeboat was called out at l0.45am on Monday morning, after being stood down at 4.30pm on Sunday evening following the search for missing Polperro fisherman, Daniel Kebble.
On Monday the crew were called to a fishing boat, Cornish Lass, taking on water in Par Bay. The vessel, owned by Peter Matthews, 46, had started to take on water after sailing earlier that morning from Fowey. Mr Matthews was on board with his son, Lee, 20.
Also included in the call-out were Fowey pilot boat and a helicopter from RNAS Culdrose. After pumping gear had been put aboard the fishing boat it was towed back to Fowey and moored, where the remaining water was pumped out, the cause of the problem later thought to be a pipe coming off the oil cooler in the engine.
Mr Matthews said that with the fishing vessels around, and the helicopter, both he and his son would have been safe, but without the lifeboat and pilot boat their vessel would have been lost.
The Fowey vessel launched was the Trent class offshore lifeboat 'The Maurice and Joyce Hardy'. The lifeboat had spent 20 hours at sea searching for the missing fisherman, coxwain Keith Stuart, Jonathan Pritchard, Pat Barron and Rob Husband all being involved in this incident. The fifth crewman on Monday was Carl Gudmunsen.
