LOOE Sailing Club rounded off the 2001 season with their annual dinner and dance at the Hannafore Point Hotel, attended this year by over 130 members, the most for recent years.

After the meal Commodore Steve Sargent in his own inimitable style had everyone in raptures with his summing up of the evening and the year as a whole, highlighting several of the club's successes and amazing incidents.

He paid tribute to Barry and Janet Darlington for organising the sailing programme.

Attention then turned to the table laden with silver and glassware as Rear Commodore Janet Dartlington presented the annual awards.

Among the trophies awarded were class winners Bud Coote with Tim Jackman and Dave Darlington crewing in the Redwing Fleet; Steve Sargent and Sandi Turner, Enterprise Fleet; and Sam Haines and Peta Coote in the Mirror Fleet.

Competition over the whole season in the Enterprise Fleet was so close that Steve Sargent and Francis Marshall shared the Fleet Cup for most wins with 18 points.

Young Eliot Delf was awarded the trophy for most improved sailor having joined the Mirror Fleet this season fresh from the club's Junior Sail Training Scheme.
