THE 2026/27 WH Bond Liskeard Snooker League season got underway last Wednesday night with promoted Dobwalls winning at Pelynt A.

Pelynt were holders of the Runabout Shield but couldn't keep hold of it as Wayne Paffey, Mark Newin and Roger Mitchell secured a 3-2 success.

Last season’s Division One winners Essa Club found themselves 3-0 down against Downderry A whose Nigel Gilbert hit the week’s highest break of 40, but Adrian Tomkies and Nigel Edmonds made the scoreline respectable.

Premier champions St Dominick A entertained Looe Social and breaks of 36 from Andrew Pearce and 27 from Martin Pitcher led them to a 3-0 lead. Matt Vessey pulled one back, but in the final frame last season’s ‘Most Wins’ winner Darran Lock came unstuck against Kevin Steed.

Both Calstock and St Neot started with whitewash wins as they thrashed Lerryn and St Dominick B respectively, while at Freathy, James Edmonds’ 28 break and Simon Deacon’s 25 clearance saw them go 4-0 up over Pelynt D. Darell Hidson took the last frame.

St Ive made a flying start to their Division One season with a 5-0 win over Downderry B, while both relegated teams made winning starts.

Pelynt B came back from 2-1 down at Luckett with Phil Hearnden and Steve Eastley taking the final two frames, while Trewidland ensured a 3-2 success at Liskeard Cons with two of the frames decided on the black.

St Germans reversed their fixture against Menheniot due to work on their venue, but despite leading 2-1 with wins for Julian True and Nick Avis, were undone by Geoff Ransom and Lee Crocker at the end.

At Lanreath, Trevelmond’s Michael Haley won a deciding frame against Greg West, while the Polbathic derby saw the B team take the honours following an epic comeback which saw successes for Darren Worden, James Ivey and Steve Cocks.
