NATIONAL LEAGUE ONE

Camborne 38 London Scottish 26

CAMBORNE recorded a first home win of the season with a deserved six-try success over London Scottish that sees them move up to fourth spot in the National One table.

In the Recreation Ground sunshine and in front of a crowd of more than 1,200, the visitors playing down the slope took an early lead with an unconverted corner try from Alex Earnshaw.

The Cherry and Whites replied on 16 minutes as hooker Ben Priddey dotted down on the back of a 20-metre driving maul with Fraser Honey adding the extras for 7-5.

Though Scottish went back in front with a powerful maul try of their own via hooker Harry Clayton, Priddey repeated the earlier dose on the half-hour, which was again improved by fly-half Honey for 14-12.

As the interval neared, ‘Town’ fashioned a superb try following centre Ben Power’s long pass as young full-back Oli Roberts plus wings Matt Shepherd and Frankie Nowell all combined to send scrum-half Dan Roderick scampering over.

Down 19-12 at the break, the visitors looked to have a mountain to climb as Camborne attacked their favoured end, and so it proved as the home side camped in front of the West Bank for long periods.

The bonus-point try arrived promptly after the resumption as Roderick and a rampaging Adam Hughes traded passes to set up flanker Jago Sheppard who raced in wide out. Honey duly slotted the conversion in off a post for a 14-point lead.

Though London Scottish then reduced the arrears with a converted score from Clayton, the Cherry and Whites were well on top and were then only denied twice by valiant defence with the ball held up over the goal line.

Eventually the incessant pressure told with Nowell diving over and Honey converting with a majestic kick to make it 33-19.

Late on the evergreen Priddey claimed his hat-trick with a catch and drive touchdown to put the result beyond any doubt, but the visitors did gain a consolation bonus point for their efforts with a fourth try from centre Will Butler.

Camborne are back in action on Saturday when they visit bottom side Cambridge (3pm).
