Wellington 0 Torpoint Athletic 6
TORPOINT made it back-to-back victories with a comprehensive result against bottom club Wellington on Saturday, scoring three goals in each half to move them up to ninth in the table.
James Rowe scored twice in the opening 24 minutes and other goals came from Sam Pearson, Ethan Wright, Owen Haslam and Curtis Damerell from the penalty spot.
The visitors swept ahead after only six minutes when Pearson lobbed Luke Vernon from distance after the keeper punched the ball out towards him.
Torpoint doubled their lead six minutes later when a cheeky backheel by Darren Hicks sent the ball into the path of Rowe to fire home from close-range.
And it was 3-0 midway through the half when good build-up play by the midfield found Rowe to add to his tally.
Three minutes into the second half, Torpoint got their fourth and the match was over as contest. Hicks was brought down in the penalty area, Damerell’s resulting spot-kick penalty was saved by Vernon, but Dave Barker picked up the rebound and put through Wright to blast home.
Just before the hour mark, Torpoint made it five when Damerell squared the ball across to Haslam to blast his rasping shot past Vernon.
Torpoint continued to create chances from Sam Hepworth, Sam Morgan and Callum O’Brien, before they got their sixth goal in the third minute of stoppage-time. Rowe was brought down in the penalty area and this time Damerell coolly converted the spot-kick.
The Point welcome Newquay tomorrow night in the Les Phillips Cup (7.30pm) before taking a break from action until they visit Tavistock in the league on October 31 (3pm).
