A comfortable 2-0 Devon derby victory over Exeter City, seven wins in row, six in League Two, it seems an age since the opening day of the season and Plymouth Argyle’s 3-0 home defeat by Luton Town.

But it wasn’t that long ago – a point worth remembering for any Pilgrims fans getting too carried away by Argyle’s winning surge to the summit.

I am not about to throw a dampener on the Greens’ great start to the season, just a salutary reminder that things can turn around very quickly in football.

One of my friends – a long standing enlisted member of the Green Army – was talking about Saturday’s home game against Hartlepool United being the start of a week when ‘Argyle could easily pick up nine points’.

Yes and, well, no.

You can easily understand why managers ’never look at league tables until after Christmas’ or roll out the clichéd ’taking it one game at a time’ quote.

Expectation is one thing but in September?

Suffice to say that just as sports correspondent Kevin Marriott reminded Argyle-supporting Cornish Times readers not to get too down when the Greens made a sticky start to the season, I would now say keep your feet firmly fixed on terra firma.

Don’t get too carried away.
