Saltash teenager Isaac Burdon has been making waves for Plymouth Argyle this week in the youth squad’s SuperCupNI campaign in Northern Ireland.

The under 15 centre half, who is captain of the side, scored four goals in three group games for the young Pilgrims.

He was among the scorers in Argyle’s stunning 10-1 win over Alset of Colombia on Monday in a game which also saw Liskeard’s Tom Harris, another under 15 defender, on the scoresheet.

The Argyle team on Monday also featured Liskeard teenager Jordan Duffey, who came on in goal for the second half in place of Max Childs, and Kieran Rowe, the nephew of former Argyle and Saltash United midfield star Mark Rowe. Kieran scored Argyle’s sixth goal.

On Tuesday, Argyle held Glasgow Rangers to a 2-2 draw, which was a good result despite being 2-0 up early in the first half. Wadebridge’s Mick Peck scored a fifth minute penalty after Aaron Goulty (Saltash) had been fouled, and Burdon headed in Argyle’s second in the 20th minute.

Pressure Rangers reduced the arrears shortly before half-time and equalized just after the break before piling on the pressure in search of a winner, but the young Pilgrims battled to hold on for a draw.

Only 15 hours later Argyle were back in action and there were some tired legs evident as they slipped to a 3-2 defeat against County Armagh. Burdon was again on target, cancelling out the opposition’s first half goal with a 52nd minute header, but County Armagh scored twice in three minutes to establish a 3-1 lead.

Argyle continued to battle and after Burdon had scored his and Argyle’s second goal in the 83rd minute, the Plymouth side pressed for an equalizer, and twice Burdon came desperately close to his hat trick goal in the dying minutes.

The Pilgrims were due to play Middlesbrough yesterday afternoon in their semi-finals group match. The Argyle squad also included Jake Cribb from Callington, who came on as a second half substitute against Alset and County Armagh.

Argyle’s first team squad now prepare for the visit to Home Park tomorrow of Premier League West Bromwich Albion, who are managed by former Argyle boss Tony Pulis. Supporters are reminded that this is a 5.30pm kick-off.
