The Argyle column with Ross Reid of southwestsportsnews.com
Plymouth Argyle soared to third in League Two following their last minute 1-0 win over Cheltenham at rain-lashed Home Park that speaks volumes about Argyle’s resolve now they are starting to gain momentum.
Derek Adams’ side have now won their last four league games (after losing the opening two) ahead of today’s home game against slow starters Cambridge United, who start the game bottom of the league.
There is no dressing up the fact that the first half of last Saturday’s rain and wind-lashed match was as dreary as the weather.
Nevertheless Adams deserves massive credit for switching it up in the second half with the introduction of powerful target man Arnold Garita, making his Greens debut after joining Argyle on loan from Bristol City.
Garita was a deadline day arrival at Home Park – and what a capture he appears to be.
He is strong, wilful and makes things happen and if his 45 minute run-out against Cheltenham is a marker of what’s to come then we all want to see more.
He was impressive to the extent that I made him my man of the match. Talk about impact subs!
Adams said: ‘David Goodwillie worked himself into some excellent areas and him and Garita upfront looked good.
‘They worked well together and put Cheltenham under a lot of pressure and I don’t know how they haven’t got a goal each.’
