South West Peninsula League Premier West preview – Saturday, September 9
LEADERS Sticker bounced back from their opening defeat of the season last weekend by putting on a five-star display in midweek against Helston Athletic, and the villagers will look for more of the same at promoted Hayle tomorrow.
Ethan Skyba and Harvey Hann had them two goals up before Josh Penrose’s brace, plus Connor Cooke’s goal, gave them a 5-0 success.
However, they face a tricky test at Hayle who have adapted well to Step Six football since promotion. The Greens have seven points from five starts and beat in-form Falmouth Town Reserves 2-0 in midweek courtesy of Rohan Bennetts and Jordan Knuckey.
St Austell are just a point behind with both sides having played six matches, and they welcome a Mousehole side who need a response following a 4-0 defeat at Holsworthy last weekend.
Jacob Trudgeon’s solitary goal gave ambitious Penzance a narrow success at Wendron on Tuesday, and they face host St Mawgan who have lost their last four following an opening day win at Mousehole.
With Penzance on 13, three sides – Callington Town, Falmouth and Holsworthy – are all on 12.
The Devonians and Falmouth both have the afternoon off, while Cally start as firm favourites at home to Wendron.
Two mid-table sides battle it out at Launceston as the Clarets host a Helston side who could do with a result following heavy defeats, while Bude Town – flying high with three wins on the spin – welcome a Millbrook side that have won just once.
Bottom side Dobwalls, the only team yet to have won with just a point from a possible 18, go to Wadebridge Town who will want a response from last weekend’s 4-1 hammering by Bude.
Fixtures (3pm): AFC St Austell v Mousehole, Bude Town v Millbrook, Callington Town v Wendron United, Hayle v Sticker, Launceston v Helston Athletic, Penzance v St Mawgan, Wadebridge Town v Dobwalls.
