Tis the season to be jolly.
Argyle kicked off their run into the busy festive fixtures with an away win!
Now Derek Adams’ Greens head into a spell of four games in 11 days that could define the rest of their League One campaign.
Tomorrow they host an Accrington Stanley side desperate to get back to winning ways following four league losses in a row.
Argyle head into the game on the back of a 2-1 win at Rochdale and a healthy seven points in four games.
After hosting Stanley the Pilgrims travel to basement side AFC Wimbledon on Boxing Day, League Cup semi-finalists Burton Albion a week tomorrow before hosting the side who knocked them out of the FA Cup, Oxford United, on New Year’s Day.
Walsall’s progress in the FA Cup means Argyle are without a home league game on Saturday, January 5, and I am sure Adams will give his side the weekend off if they accrue double points over the next four games.
Last week’s win has enabled Argyle to leapfrog managerless Bristol Rovers and up to 21st, tantalisingly one point away from 20th placed Scunthorpe, who – like Stanley and Rovers – have lost their last four league games.
Having thawed out from Argyle’s Rochdale trip, Adams said: ‘It was always going to be a difficult game away to Rochdale because we know they play without any fear because of the position they are in the league and the type of football club they are.
‘We eventually got ahead in the game from a good ball in by Antoni Sarcevic, Joel Grant again running into the box and getting another goal.
‘They came back into the game. We got a fortunate goal in the end to win but we haven’t had a lot of fortune this season so we were due some.’
With a win under their collective belt and a dwindling injury list, Argyle can look forward to this quartet of games with renewed confidence.
Adams added: ‘Jamie Ness hadn’t trained for 11 days but came on in the second half and did fine. It was good to have him back because he gives us some steel in the middle of the park.
‘Accrington started the season very well and got a good number of points. They have some very good players.
‘We’ve come off a win, they’ve come off a loss and we want to continue the progress we are making.
‘Over the Christmas period, over the last three years, we have tended to do very well, we want that to continue.
‘The games come thick and fast but we know from previous experience, that in the space of four games, you can quickly propel yourselves up the league . . . ‘
C’mon you Greens!
I’d like to take this once-a-year opportunity to wish all Cornish Times sport readers Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
