WESTERN LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

Liskeard Athletic 1 Wells City 2

SOMETHING went bump in the night at Lux Park on Saturday as an off-colour Liskeard fell to their third home league defeat of the season against mid-table Wells City.

It was scary stuff from the promotion-chasing Blues as they conceded two second half goals after Jack Crago had put them ahead six minutes after the break.

Alfie Clark, who later saw red, equalised for the Somerset side before substitute Jacob Reader fired a winner which will haunt the Blues for some time.

Joint manager Wayne Gamble said: “With it being Halloween I’m unsure if our performance was part of the planned evening where we all turn up as ghosts!

“Because I didn’t see anyone whatsoever for 90 minutes. The 10-day break killed us.

“Wells set up 4-1-4-1 and obviously tried making it hard for us, but after going 1-0 up with a great Crago goal – Lorenz with an unbelievable assist – we should have done so much better.

“I spoke to Wells manager Steve Murray after the game and his instructions to his players were they ain’t coming down here to get their bellies tickled by us again (after Liskeard’s 3-1 win at Wells in September), and they certainly didn’t do that, so fair play.”

He added: “The weather is changing, pitches will get heavy, so we need to be able to mix everything up – we can’t play in perfect conditions every week.”

New signing Gene Price was named among the substitutes with Gamble saying: “Massive positive for us to get young Gene signed. He has a massive future and he’s a great lad.”

Liskeard make a quick return to action with a tricky Cornwall Senior Cup second-round tie against Sticker at Lux Park (7.30) on Tuesday night.
