IZUZU FA VASE FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND
St Blazey 3 Launceston 0
St Blazey cruised through to the second qualifying round of the FA Vase as three second half goals ended Launceston’s resistance at Blaise Park on Saturday.
Blazey had been frustrated in a scrappy first half where striker Kai Burrell saw his 18th minute penalty saved by Howie Evans after Tallan Mitchell had been brought down.
But it took only three minutes of the second half for them to break the deadlock through Cavanagh before Redd scored twice in 12 minutes to put the tie beyond the Clarets.
That’s five out of six wins for unbeaten Blazey, who now prepare to face Tavistock again at Blaise Park – this time in the Western League Premier Division on Wednesday night (August 19, 7.30pm) following their FA Cup success against the Lambs in midweek.
Director of Football Phil Lafferty, in charge of the Green and Blacks in the absence of manager Dan Hart, said: “I was delighted with the players’ approach and mindset to the game.
“The first half saw us dominate play in all thirds, but just lacking in better decision making and cutting edge in the final third.
“As the case so far this season, the second half started with us on the front foot and we made the breakthrough three minutes after the restart with a great header from the impressive Tom Cavanagh, who was named man-of-the-match by our match sponsors.
“The dominance of possession continued and Launceston unsurprisingly grew tired and we punished them with two further goals from young Olly Redd, who had another impressive game.”
