SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE PREMIER WEST
Callington Town 2 Bude Town 1
CALLINGTON Town secured a league double over Bude Town as they edged a close contest 2-1 at the Ginsters Marsh on Wednesday night.
Cally won 3-2 in North Cornwall back in August and had won seven of their eight outings as they look to push the likes of St Austell and Penzance for the title. The two met last night with the Magpies winning 1-0 at Poltair.
Bude started the game well and put the Pastymen under pressure, but fell behind on 22 minutes as Kieran Prescott seized on a loose pass and went through one-on-one before slotting past Leam Powell.
Bude rallied themselves and were level within two minutes. A long ball from a free-kick dropped before being cut back by right-back Nathan Colley for winger Piran Friend to tap in.
The Seasiders enjoyed plenty of possession but were nearly undone as right-back George Soper was played in, however Powell stayed big and blocked.
Bude, who saw midfielder Jake Woodland head a corner across the bar in the first half, again knocked it around well after the break, although were generally kept to efforts from distance.
Eventually Cally got themselves moving in an attacking sense, particularly on the turnovers. Dan Alford fizzed a cross-shot just wide but with 14 minutes remaining, in a similar position, picked out Saltash United’s dual-registered attacker Joe Preece to finish from eight yards.

Bude again regrouped in a bid for an equaliser, but bar a low 20-yard shot from teenage sub Harry Banks that was well gathered by Mead-Crebbin, Cally held on to keep their season nicely on track.
