FA VASE FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND
Callington Town 0 Tavistock 2
CALLINGTON suffered a disappointing early exit from the FA Vase with a 2-0 reversal at the hands of Western League Premier Division side Tavistock on Saturday.
A very healthy crowd of over 250 were in attendance, however the hosts who failed to build on their opening league victories over Dobwalls and Bude Town as they fell to their first home defeat in 11 months.
A couple of enforced changes through injury, including key striker Fin Harrison, coupled with a cagey start, saw the Pastymen find themselves behind after 12 minutes. Midfielder Tom Chastey picked the ball up on the right and drifted through unchallenged before executing a great finish into the top corner from 20 yards, giving Jake Mead-Crebbin no chance.
It was the visitors in the ascendancy for most of the half, without having anything particularly clear-cut that was goal-bound, while Cally efforts in the final third were very limited.
The hosts again struggled to make much headway after the restart despite Dan Alford having a shot saved, and were undone just after the hour when the prolific Jack Crago made no mistake from close-range.
Despite being 2-0 down, the best the hosts offered was a couple of efforts on goal, which were again comfortably gathered. Even with tired legs and the pitch opening up more, there weren’t generally too many chances at either end as Tavi cruised into the next round.
Cally are back in action on Saturday with the long trip to Falmouth Town Reserves (3pm), the first of three matches in seven days.
