MILLBROOK’S young goalkeeper Tom Burstow produced a remarkable individual performance to earn his side a point at Bude Town on Saturday in South West Peninsula League Premier West.

The teenager started the season at neighbours Liskeard Athletic in the Western League Premier Division before being cast aside in favour of former Plymouth Argyle and Mousehole stopper Ollie Chenoweth.

But Burstow, who is attracting interest from higher up the pyramid, made a series of saves at Broadclose Park in the 2-2 draw.

Within five minutes he diverted Billy Hopcroft’s shot, which was destined for the top corner wide, before he was beaten just before the half-hour mark by Piran Friend.

It was 2-0 to Town when Hopcroft crashed in a rebound following Burstow’s save, however Millbrook equalised as a Will Burns penalty was added to by Luke Jones just after the hour.

Then came Burstow’s remarkable efforts as he first saved Harrison Swatton’s penalty after 72 minutes before an even better effort from Hopcroft’s spot-kick on 84 minutes saw him tip the ball onto the post.

Millbrook then defended stoutly to secure a first draw of the season to add to their recent victory over Wadebridge Town.

Dobwalls’ tough start continued as they were beaten 2-0 at Wadebridge Town.

The Bridgers have put together a far better looking squad under Paul Rowe since his return in August, and they built up a commanding lead in the first half.

Dan O’Hara broke the deadlock on 18 minutes before new recruit Leo Best added the second just after the half-hour mark.

Dobwalls have until Tuesday, September 12 to wait for a response when they host Holsworthy, while Millbrook were due to visit Premier East side Okehampton Argyle last night (Tuesday, September 8) in the SWPL Walter C Parson League Cup.

The Brook’s next league action is at St Mawgan on September 19 (3pm).
