Britchford demands more despite late draw for Saltash United

THIRD-placed SALTASH United remain unbeaten after seven league games – but manager Lee Britchford has warned his players they’ll need a vast improvement to keep their run going.

Hayden Greening’s 79th minute equaliser from close range rescued a point for the Ashes in what Britchford described as ‘probably our poorest performance of the season so far’.

He said: “We were okay in the first half, our rotations were good and we worked the ball in some good areas without creating too many good opportunities.

“But at the start of the second half, for about 25 minutes, we were poor and Shepton got their rewards with a goal and probably deserved their lead.

“We managed to get a goal back, but overall we were probably lucky to draw because it’s the poorest we’ve been all season.

“Full credit to the lads for getting a result when we didn’t play well, that’s the mark of a good team.

“But we’re very much aware of the month we’ve got coming up and the calibre of the opposition we’re playing, so we’re going to have to be much better than we were on Saturday to make sure we come out of this set of games with some points.”

He added: “We’ll look at the footage from Saturday, train on Tuesday and get some messages into the boys on how we are going to progress in the next month or so.”

The Ashes’ next game sees them travel to unbeaten leaders Bridgwater United on Saturday (3pm).
