Plymouth Argyle have not been in the best form recently, but are not being helped by their lengthy injury list. Tomorrow (Saturday) Argyle will attempt to get back to winning ways against Hartlepool United at Victoria Park.
The fact that McCormick, Boateng, Carey, Reid and Simpson were missing was crucial for the Greens as they rarely threatened the visitors’ goal when they hosted Cambridge United at Home Park last Saturday.
Cambridge took the lead after just six minutes but the Pilgrims began to grow in the second half and finally, in the 73rd minute, Gregg Wylde headed home after a cross from Jake Jervis to level the scores.
They had two strong claims for a penalty waved away by the referee and then had a goal disallowed for offside.
These missed opportunities late in the game came back to haunt Argyle.
After a slip by Peter Hartley, Cambridge’s Luke Berry ran through on goal and slotted the ball past Walton into the far corner to win it for the visitors.
The Greens have now only achieved one win in their last seven games.
