PENZANCE secured a sixth ECB Cornwall Premier League title in seven years on Saturday with just one of five scheduled games going ahead.

The West Cornwall side required just four points from their clash at St Austell to be sure following Wadebridge’s defeat at Werrington the week before, but with heavy overnight and morning rain ensuring no play was possible, they retained their crown.

Wadebridge finished second by three points despite losing to Camborne by four wickets at Egloshayle Park.

A 30-over game saw the home batsmen struggle as although opener Charlie McLachlan made 21, young seamer Piran Moyle (3-27) struck three times early on.

The hosts recovered to 69-4 via James Turpin (17) and Callum Wilson (18), however youngster Theo Mankee (3-23) took out both plus skipper Kelvin Snell.

Nineteen from wicketkeeper Fred Wilkinson and twelve from Ross McLachlan got the Swans to 119 all out as off-spinner Dan Stephens rounded off a hugely successful personal season with 3-21 from his four.

Wadebridge’s fine bowling attack went to work with Wilson (2-19) and Turpin (2-14), followed by the left-arm spin of Matt Lawrence (2-9), reducing the visitors to 60-6.

But wicketkeeper Liam Weeks stood firm and found support from Stephens who battled at one end for 15 not out off 28. However, Weeks mixed watchful defence with some lusty ball striking to finish 57 not out from 80 balls with two fours and four sixes.

The victory guaranteed Camborne a highly-impressive fifth on their return to the top-flight.

Elsewhere in the division, Grampound Road are relegated after two seasons.

The previous weekend’s defeat to St Just proved crucial as victory in that game would have ensured the West Cornwall outfit would have ended last.

However, Logan Curnow’s superb 8-49 set up a chase of 163 which the visitors narrowly reached, helped by 57 from former county skipper Scott Harvey.

St Just ended 16 points clear of Grampound and six behind St Austell who produced a late rally to avoid an unexpected relegation.

Redruth’s tally of 184 was enough for seventh, one adrift of Helston who have announced that skipper Dan Jenkin is stepping down as captain after nine years in charge across two spells.

Werrington’s trip to Callington being called off ensured the hosts weren’t able to pip the village outfit to third.

All of the main talking points in County Division One were sewn up the week before.

Hayle wrapped up the title by a hefty 34 points from Truro who were unable to secure an instant return to the Premier, while at the bottom both Luckett and Falmouth will drop into their respective Division Two leagues.

Luckett were promoted despite finishing third in the east in 2025, but Falmouth – a Premier club as recently as 2019 – look set to play in Division Two West for the first time in their long history next summer.

Luckett’s place will be taken by Wadebridge Seconds who were in the division in 2024 – while St Erme have ensured an immediate return to the second-tier having seen off a strong challenge from Mullion.

This weekend sees six county finals across the Duchy with the winners of the respective east and west divisions taking each other on, including Wadebridge Seconds versus St Erme at Lanhydrock (12.30pm).
