CALLINGTON Cricket Club have announced the signing of Devon opener Sam Elstone for the 2027 ECB Cornwall Premier League season.

Despite Sidmouth’s relegation last term from the Devon Premier League, Elstone averages a shade over 50 and boasts an impresseive batting record with six hundreds and 12 half-centuries.

His impressive stats extends to National Counties cricket where he averages 47.17 across 32 innings, with eleven half-centuries and three centuries to his name.

Sam has also produced on the biggest occasions. In Devon’s 2026 NCCA Championship final victory over Buckinghamshire, he delivered a man-of-the-match performance, scoring 104 in the first innings before adding 55 in the second to help secure the title.

A former Scotland Under-19s international, the 24-year-old represented his country at the 2022 ICC Under-19 World Cup in the West Indies and has also featured for Somerset Seconds.

On the move, director of cricket Joe White said: “We look forward to welcoming Sam to Moores Park when he returns from a winter playing for Elsternwick in Melbourne. We’re incredibly excited to have him on board for next year and beyond!

“Sam is someone we’ve had our eye on for a couple of years now, so to finally get the deal done is really exciting for everyone at the club.”

Elstone is likely to open the batting once again with South African opener Liam Lindsay who is expected to return for a fifth campaign.

White concluded: “Supporters can expect to see a really classy top-order batsman who brings a lot of quality. What I particularly like about him is his grit and determination to bat for long periods and really value his wicket. With the quality of batsmen we already have around him, I think he’ll complement our batting line-up brilliantly and help give us a really strong platform to build on.”
