TRAFFIC chaos in a Clay Country village has led to an apology from Cornwall Council.

The traffic disruption has been caused by roadworks associated with a scheme to improve travel links in Bugle, particularly to the railway station.

The works are being carried out by Cormac for Cornwall Council as part of the Mid Cornwall Metro active travel scheme.

Temporary four-way traffic lights in the centre of the village have been causing much frustration.

On Monday (September 28), Treverbyn Parish Council, which covers Bugle, said it had received an update from the Cornwall Council highways department.

In an online post, the parish council said: “Cornwall Council Highways has thanked residents, businesses, road users and the school community for their patience and has apologised for the disruption caused during the first phase of works, particularly by the temporary four-way traffic lights.

“Following feedback from the community and a review by the project team, changes have now been made. The temporary four-way traffic signal system has been removed and the permanent traffic lights and pedestrian crossings have been reinstated. This has already helped improve traffic flow and reduce delays through the village.

“To reduce disruption during the daytime, the remaining works in this phase will be carried out mainly during the evenings and at night.”

The disruption has come at a time when wider issues over traffic are causing concerns in the Bugle area. With this in mind, Cornwall councillor Steve Trevelyan is involved in organising a protest with villagers at the Singlerose Roundabout at Stenalees on the A391 link road.

The protest, due to staged at noon on Saturday, October 3, is aimed at urging drivers to use the link road rather than being tempted to cut through smaller village roads.

Cllr Trevelyan said the traffic chaos had made the protest even more relevant.
