One of the Torpoint Ferries will be out of action from tomorrow while work to replace its chains is carried out.
The replacement of the main chains on the Lynher II had been scheduled to take place over the weeeknd just gone, but had to be postponed due to the high winds.
The ferry should be back in service on Thursday, says Tamar Crossings.
’Ferry chains need to be replaced every three years,’ said a spokesperson.
’Changing main chains is a major engineering exercise – each chain is over 650 metres long and weighs 23 tonnes.
’The whole process typically takes two to three days depending on tide timings.’
A 15 minute service with two ferries running will be operated between 6.30am and 9.30pm on the days the Lynher is out of operation.
’We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused to users while the ferry is out of service and would encourage them to plan their journeys accordingly,’ said Tamar Crossings.
