A race against time is on today in Looe to raise the cash for a new music festival.
Looe Saves the Day is the name of the new live music event set to take place over the weekend of September 21-23.
Around £25k has now come in from supporters – but the original target of £30,000 has had to go up; Devon and Cornwall Police have set out extra safety measures required for the ‘Plan B’ event.
Since the Looe Music Festival charity ceased trading at the start of this week, volunteers have worked around the clock to arrange a whole new set of bands, venues, and infrastructure for the alternative Looe Saves the Day event.
There will be no stage on the beach, but the beach will be open to the public.
A main stage will go up in the Buller Quay car park, with other locations to include the Quayside in West Looe and hotels and pubs around the town.
The festival, which began in 2011, contributes around £2.2million each year to the local economy.
Edwina Hannaford is part of the new team. She said: ‘The Police and Council officers asked challenging questions about our plans, but we came away feeling a bit happier that we are on the right track safety wise and grateful for their good advice.
‘They agreed in principle there were no deal breakers to our plans subject to a full event management plan, traffic management and safety plans plus risk assessment being supplied to their satisfaction.
‘But most impressive of all has been the generosity of the people and businesses of Looe and beyond.
‘We still need volunteers so please email [email protected].’
