GPs can now prescribe surfing to help cure young patients’ mental health problems thanks to a BBC Children in Need award to The Wave Project.
The funding for the Prescription Surf programme comes as part of BBC Children in Need’s programme focused on children’s mental health which aims to support children aged eight to 13 through what can be a tricky transition phase in their lives.
The three-year grant of £296,940 has been allocated to The Wave Project to support the development of a social prescribing model in Devon and Cornwall. Through the three-year allocation, the project aims to deliver evidence-based intervention for children aged eight to 13 in the South West and embed the offering in local GP surgeries to enable direct referrals to reach even more children and young people in need of support.
