ALDI'S plans to build a supermarket in Liskeard were confirmed in October when the German supermarket chain advertised for management staff, but would not be drawn on where or when it intended to start the development.

A spokesperson said there are still no plans for the directors to make a statement yet.

However, Aldi has re-confirmed its commitment to Liskeard by lodging an appeal to county planners for an extension of time on the plan it submitted in January 2009. This was to build on land it owns at Vospers Ford, Charter Way, at the northern end of the town.

The building timescale was for completion by January 30, 2012.

The Aldi plan is for a 1.392 sqm foodstore with car parking and landscaping.

The store's appeal was supported by the town council at its meeting on Tuesday.
