More than 8,100 volunteers joined Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) at 281 locations across the UK for a record-breaking beach clean.

In one week in October, 8,102 individuals, schools, local businesses and community groups took part in 281 organised beach cleans across the UK, removing 18 tonnes of marine litter, the equivalent of more than 4,500 full bin bags.

132 beach cleans took place from Arlingham on the River Severn to Sennen and then through the south coast to Sidmouth, mobilising 4,338 people, removing 8,086kg of marine litter and recycling nearly 7,000 plastic bottles.
